What this is

InkName helps people who want a Chinese character tattoo verify the name before it is permanent. Enter your name, get three candidate names with pinyin, per-character meanings, and calligraphy previews in three styles — plus a safety audit for slang collisions and unfortunate homophones.

How names are created

Candidates are generated by combining phonetic transliteration with meaning-based translation, drawing on common characters used in real Chinese names. Every candidate then passes an automated audit: slang collisions, bad homophones in Mandarin, unintended phrase formation, and pinyin accuracy. Candidates that fail are discarded before you ever see them.

Honest limitations

The audit is automated. It catches the overwhelming majority of problems, but no automated system is perfect. If you have a native Mandarin speaker in your life, a second opinion on your final choice is always worth five minutes. We tell you this because a tattoo is forever and we would rather you be sure than sorry.
